To Celebrate Buddha’s Enlightenment Day

Thursday 15 Apr | 6:30 – 8:30 pm

The Life of Buddha is a special dramatic presentation, inspired by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche and his teachings, that visually captures the essence of Buddha Shakyamuni’s life. Based on the twelve principal deeds of Buddha, it reveals in a clear and moving way the essential characteristics of a spiritual life.

By watching this play again and again, we can discover the deeper levels of the spiritual message of Buddha’s life. This play will be a source of constant encouragement and inspiration in our lives. Through it we can encourage ourself to take the real meaning of our human life, and learn how we accomplish this meaning by attaining the supreme happiness of enlightenment.

The quickest way to make progress in anything in life is to rely upon the skilful guidance of a person who is already fully accomplished in what we are trying to achieve. For example, in our ordinary education we need to rely upon the help of well-qualified teachers to guide us from the level of nursery school to the completion of college or university training. This is also true in our spiritual life –  we need to rely upon an authentic and well-qualified Spiritual Guide to help us make swift progress in our spiritual training.

Such a deep root cannot be planted hastily. We need to become acquainted with someone who has all the qualifications of a Spiritual Guide, and gradually gain confidence through their teaching and example so that we can rely upon their guidance. Our relationship with our Spiritual Guide is the very source of all spiritual attainments, therefore we must make sure that he or she possesses all the necessary qualifications.

Friday and Saturday, our Resident Teacher of Akshobya Kadampa Buddhist Centre, Kelsang Khacho will teach and guide meditations that will help us understand the absolute necessity of relying upon a qualified Spiritual Guide.

Many people today feel lost, even broken, with life seeming to have no meaning. Worry, anxiety, despair and depression consume both energy and relationships across the world, everybody is involved. However, the teachings of Buddha offer ancient wisdom and practical compassion which, if actively put into our lives, can utterly transform our world bringing hope, purpose, light and meaning where previously there was only misery and darkness. This Public Talk will explain how it is possible for us to transform our mind from its present confused and self-centred state into perfect wisdom and compassion and thereby fulfil our deepest wishes for a happy life.

The Wheel of Life was a diagram drawn by Buddha that teaches the complete path to enlightenment. Included within it are Buddha’s teachings on The Four Noble Truths, telling us what we should know, abandon, practice and attain; it also illustrates the Twelve-Dependent Related Links, a chain-like series of cause and effect that reveals the way in which we are bound to samsaric rebirth.

This course will give a practical and contemplative tour of the Wheel of Life and show how we can use this diagram to inspire our meditations and guide us along the spiritual path.

Everyone is welcome!
