Grassi Lakes Family Hike & Meditation

August 17 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm

Join us for an enjoyable and scenic hike to Grassi Lakes just 5 minutes west of Canmore town centre on Saturday, August 17th! We will start at 10am from the Grassi Lakes trail parking lot.
Date: August 17
Time: 10am – 1:30 (approx)
Where to meet? see below
Getting there: see below

There are two trails:

  • a wide, inviting, and gentle trail in lovely dense forest before breaking out into the open at the lakes. It’s not too long (4 km round trip) and not too steep (elevation gain 125 m). You can bring your family and friends and enjoy visiting on this hike.
  • a more challenging, steep, in parts (with steps) trail that offers waterfall and Canmore vistas along the way before reaching the lakes. It’s the same elevation gain and similar length.

  • We plan to linger at the lakes for snacks and a guided meditation no matter which trail you take.
  • What time will we meet? 10am
  • Where to meet? The hike leaves from a trail signpost at the northeast corner of the parking lot.
  • Allow 3 to 3 1/2 hours for the hike, snacks, and meditation.
  • A pass for Kananaskis Park is needed for all vehicles. If you don’t have an annual pass for your vehicle, the daily pass is $15 and available at alberta.ca/kananaskis-conservation-pass.aspxSome people have annual passes and are happy to carpool. Let us know if you need a ride when you register or you have a pass and can give a ride and we can assist in helping everyone get there.

  • You can register for the hike at the Centre (the best option) or on our website. We have suggested donations, $7, $21, $37, $108 (auspicious Buddhist numbers) or you can make a donation of your choice on our regular donation page. Donations of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt. Please give your physical address and email for receipt purposes when registering with us.

What to bring?

  • Good hiking shoes, water, snacks, rain coat (weather can change quickly in the mountains), and something to sit on the ground during the break and meditation.

Getting there: Get directions here. From Calgary, follow Trans-Canada Hwy/AB-1 W to Three Sisters Pkwy/AB-742. Take exit 93 from Trans-Canada Hwy/AB-1 W. Turn left onto Three Sisters Pkwy/AB-742. Stay on Three Sisters Pkwy/AB-742 for 8.3 km as it weaves and winds until reaching Ken Ritchie Way. Turn left onto Ken Ritchie Way and you will reach the trailhead parking lot in 400 m.
